Residents in northern Ohio certainly understand the importance that Lake Erie has on our lives, both in the tourism it attracts to the state and to the resources it provides for our top-producing industries like farming. As people also remember from last year, a severe algal bloom hit Lake Erie, most heavily around the Toledo area, forcing nearby families to travel sometimes several miles across multiple counties to find clean drinking water.

The opiate epidemic in Ohio is something we have worked hard to fight here in the Ohio House. During the 130th General Assembly, we passed several beneficial pieces of legislation designed to reduce the amount of Ohioans addicted to these destructive drugs, help our addicted citizens get the care they need and increase awareness of the powerful effects that these drugs can have. I am proud of the work we have done up to this point, but it is clear that more work needs to be done while Ohioans still suffer from addiction.

Every odd-numbered year, we in the legislature, along with the governor, craft the bills that compose the state budget.
