It Is a Privilege to Serve the Residents of Erie and Ottawa Counties

Last month, I had the privilege of being appointed to serve the 89th District in the Ohio House of Representatives, which includes all of Erie and Ottawa counties. I first want to thank Speaker Cliff Rosenberger and the legislators on the selection panel for choosing me, as well as my staff and colleagues in the Ottawa County Commissioner’s Office for their continued support during this process. It is a responsibility that I take very seriously.
Understandably, the first thing on many people’s minds was in regards to what my priorities would be upon taking office. Therefore, I would like to share with the residents of the 89th District a few of the things that will be at the top of my list of priorities.
First and foremost is preserving and protecting the health and safety of the constituents of the 89th District—men and women of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and ideologies. This job is about people, and therefore my first pledge is to listen to the people of the district. Every voice is important, and I hope that you will never hesitate to reach out to me and share your voice so that I can better serve you.
Second, having served as an Ottawa County Commissioner for 27 years, I have an understanding and an appreciation for the importance of local government. I have always believed that the closer a government is to the people it serves, the better able it is to fulfill the needs and concerns of those people. Local officials at the county, township and municipal levels have a very important responsibility, and I promise to always be there to help them do what is needed to improve the quality of life of the people they represent.
Thirdly, having been a small business owner for 39 years, I understand the need to bring new business to the district, as well as maintaining them. While I am working for the 89th District, I plan to work towards creating an atmosphere that will strengthen our communities for a strong business environment that is conducive to creating jobs.

Finally, our state cannot continue to move forward unless we educate and train young people to develop the skills necessary to compete in the job market as we advance further into the 21st Century. I will do everything I can to support and strengthen our learning environments at every level. Regardless of whether it is in a public, private or parochial school, or schooled at home, every child deserves to have resources that will help them progress and flourish later in life.
I look forward to serving with my new colleagues in the Ohio House of Representatives. I also look forward to serving on the Economic and Workforce Development, Commerce and Labor and the Armed Services, Veterans Affairs and Public Safety committees. But more importantly, I look forward to serving the residents and families of Erie and Ottawa counties. Your concerns are also my concerns, and I invite you to reach out to me to share your ideas and questions. Together, I believe we can accomplish great things to improve the lives of all residents of the district, as well as the entire state.
