Disappointed in decision to prevent districts to be drawn fairly in Ohio

State Rep. Sedrick Denson (D- Cincinnati) issued a statement today following the Supreme Court’s decision in the North Carolina and Maryland partisan gerrymandering cases.

“The decision handed down by the United States Supreme Court was a disappointing one.  Regardless, it is now the responsibility of my general assembly colleagues and I to ensure that every single Ohioan’s vote counts equally.  It’s our duty to guarantee that our redistricting process is fair, transparent, and most importantly, accurate.  I remain committed to this endeavor and I look forward to working to provide an unbiased system to my constituents.”

The United States Supreme Court ruled that federal courts do not have a role in deciding partisan gerrymandering cases leaving the decision up to individual states.  The issue of Ohio’s congressional map is still an ongoing case in the Ohio Supreme Court.
