Scott Ryan - House District 71

State Representative Scott Ryan is serving his third term in the Ohio House of Representatives. He serves the 71st District, which includes portions of Licking County.

During his time at the Ohio House, Representative Ryan has served on various committees such as Rules and Reference, Joint Medicaid Oversight, Economic and Workforce Development, and Local Government where he served as the Vice-Chair. Rep Ryan has also served on the House Finance committee as the Chair and Vice-Chair. Additional inolvement includes serving on the 2018/19 Budget Conference Committee, Controlling Board, Joint Mental Health Caucus, Summer Study Committee on Heath, and the Summer Opiate Task Force.

Rep. Ryan is passionate about serving communities in need and has been a champion for mental health and addiction causes at the state level, co-authoring the Ohio House HOPES agenda to combat the opioid crisis, and creating OhioCorps, a mentoring program that connects at-risk primary and secondary school students with mentors at higher education institutions. Rep. Ryan has also spoken at the National Conference of State Legislatures Regional Forum on Ohio’s response to the opiate epidemic and mental health crisis. In addition, he serves on the Joint Medicaid Oversight Committee and Controlling Board.

Rep. Ryan has been the owner of a printing company for over 25 years, and previously served as Licking County Treasurer. A third-generation resident of Licking County and a member of the Granville High School Class of 1983, he graduated from Miami University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

In addition, Rep. Ryan has extensive volunteer leadership experience with local nonprofit organizations including service as a member of the Board of Directors for First United Methodist Church in Newark, the Licking County Family YMCA, and United Way of Licking County.

Rep. Ryan and his wife Shellie live in Newark with their two daughters.
