Oelslager Announces Controlling Board Releases, Dec. 16, 2019

December 16, 2019
Scott Oelslager News

State Representative Scott Oelslager (R – North Canton) announced today that the Ohio Controlling Board has approved the release of funds for a service station cleanup and for the Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility.

The Controlling Board approved a $250,000 release of funds for assessment and cleanup activities in the City of Canton. The Abandoned Gas Station Cleanup Grant provides funding to assess and cleanup BUSTR Class C sites. BUSTR Class C sites are underground storage tanks with documented petroleum releases. Eligible activities include up to $100,000 for assessment and up to $500,000 for cleanup. Other eligible activities include costs to empty or remove underground storage tanks, abatement of asbestos, lead or other contamination, demolition, and site clearance.

The Controlling Board also approved the release of $736,876.76 for Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility located in Massillon. The request is for spending authority for upgrades and installation to the facility’s Spider Alert man-down system. The system is designed to notify a central command center in the event a corrections officer, food service worker, contractor, or any other staff is in immediate danger inside the grounds of the institution. The current technology is at the end of its life and is on the verge of no longer being supported. The system combines Active Radio Frequency Identification and line-of-sight infrared technology to provide response personnel with real-time alert notifications that details the location of where the security incident is taking place as well as the identity of the individual who initiated the call for assistance. These upgrades will maintain safety and security within the facility.
