Columbus -

The Ohio House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee held a hearing yesterday in Bidwell at Green Valley Gathering Place, focused primarily on livestock.

“With this visit we have gained valuable insight on the challenges facing the area’s farmers and cattlemen,” said Rep. Smith (R-Bidwell). “Agriculture is Ohio’s largest industry and its continued growth is essential for economic opportunity in Ohio.”

Among the organizations that testified before the bipartisan panel were the Ohio Development Services Agency, the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Feeder Creek Veterinary Services, the Ohio Pork Council, the Ohio Dairy Producers, Quasar Energy Group, R&C Packing, and the Ohio Poultry Association.

“This was a great way to finish off the summer Agriculture Committee hearings,” said Chairman Brian Hill (R-Zanesville). “I am certain that the members who attended the livestock hearing as well as the other four hearings now have an even greater appreciation for the agricultural community throughout Ohio.”

This was the last of five summer hearings the committee held throughout the state. The committee will issue a report of its findings, testimony, and recommendations that will be available to the public and will guide future legislative action in these areas.
