State Representative Ryan Smith (R-Bidwell) is pleased to announce today that the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department has been awarded grant funds by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Watercraft. The sheriff’s department resides in the 93rd Ohio House District, which Rep. Smith represents.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department is one of 23 community public safety agencies receiving a grant this year. The grants are provided by the ONDR Division of Watercraft’s Marine Patrol Assistance Grant program and can range from $13,518 to $32,000. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department received a grant equal to $15,825.

Rep. Smith said, “I am very happy that the sheriff’s department in Lawrence County has received these funds. With its close proximity to the Ohio River, the additional funding is helpful in order for the department to more safely and effectively carry out patrol duties on the water.”

Such grants are to be used by law enforcement agencies in order to provide emergency response to boating-related accidents. The funds can also be utilized to purchase equipment necessary on the marine patrol boats and for the carrying out of routine patrols on nearby waterways.
