Rep. Sprague Sponsors Legislation Updating Licensing Requirements For Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals
Bill keeps addiction specialists up to date on standards and guidelines amid drug epidemic

COLUMBUS—State Representative Robert Sprague (R-Findlay) today applauded the Ohio House’s passage of legislation he sponsored that updates standards and requirements for the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.

As part of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium, the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board sets standards and guidelines for the state’s alcohol and drug counselors, prevention specialists and clinical supervisors. These credentialing requirements are regularly updated every five to seven years. House Bill 230 would remove standards from the Ohio Revised Code and place them in the Ohio Administrative Code, ensuring that the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board is in compliance with new standards.

“As international accreditation standards are revised, House Bill 230 will allow the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board to ensure their licensees are properly trained and licensed,” said Representative Sprague.

House Bill 230 is another step being taken at the state level to combat the drug epidemic in Ohio. As the need for addiction specialists increases, ensuring that those in the field are up to date regarding their job standards and guidelines is crucial.

The bill passed with bipartisan support and now goes to the Senate for further consideration.
