COLUMBUS—Today, State Representative Robert Sprague (R-Findlay) was pleased to join the President of Ohio Northern University, Daniel DiBiasio; Chair of Ohio Northern’s Board of Trustees, John Bishop; and Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, John Carey, at a press conference to announce ONU’s initiative to reduce tuition, lower student debt, and help students graduate in four years.

The initiative, called “The Ohio Northern Promise,” stresses affordable academic excellence and includes four key components:

  • Lowering tuition by 20 to 25 percent (a decrease of $7,500-$9,000 depending on the program) from the 2013-14 rates and freezing next year’s net tuition at 2013-14 rates for current undergraduate students

  • Offering a Four-Year Graduation Guarantee to qualifying students who meet specific standards and expectations, which will offer an additional semester (16 credit hours) at no cost if a student is unable to graduate in four years

  • Offering internships, capstone courses, field experiences, study abroad and experiential learning

  • Maintaining their strong record of 93% job placement and graduate/professional school admission rate

“Ohio Northern University plays an important role in our state through its efforts to provide a competitive, affordable education to students,” said Rep. Sprague. “I applaud the university’s contributions to our state’s higher education system, particularly to its commitment to making a high-quality college education more accessible.”

“The conventional high-tuition and high-financial aid model is not working today and is no longer sustainable,” said ONU President DiBiasio. “This is a way forward that seeks to make a quality education more available to the best students we can attract. It’s all about affordable excellence.”

The Ohio Northern Promise was established following a year of discussions with students and faculty about how to further ONU’s academic excellence while also making tuition more affordable. The ONU Board of Trustees approved the plan on October 5th.

Ohio Northern is a private university in Ada that has received numerous accolades for its degree programs.
