Columbus -

Speaker of the Ohio House William G. Batchelder (R-Medina) has appointed State Representative Robert Sprague (R-Findlay) to serve on the Joint Medicaid Oversight Committee (JMOC), which will be responsible for overseeing reforms to Ohio’s Medicaid program.

“I am pleased to join the newly established Joint Medicaid Oversight Committee, where I can work with my colleagues on fixing the Medicaid system, which is the largest state-run program and also the fastest growing expense in the state budget,” said Representative Sprague.

Representative Sprague has been heavily involved in health-related issues during his time in the Ohio House. He currently serves as a member of the House Health and Aging Committee as well as a member of the House Finance and Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services. He was the chair of the Prescription Drug Addiction and Healthcare Reform Study Committee, which held regional hearings throughout the summer in communities across Ohio.

Speaker Batchelder also appointed four other members of the House—Representative Barbara Sears, Ryan Smith, Nickie Antonio, and Vernon Sykes—to serve on JMOC with Rep. Sprague.

“These members have been on the front lines of health care issues and will be invaluable to the work of JMOC,” said Speaker Batchelder. “Their diligence and ability to understand the complex nature of health care in Ohio will lead to healthier outcomes. I look forward to working with them on this very important committee.”

JMOC is expected to hold its first hearing in the coming weeks.
