XENIA—State Representative Rick Perales (R-Beavercreek) was issued his Ohio Veteran identification card today at the Greene County Recorder’s office, along with a gathering of veterans and local elected officials. Rep. Perales spoke about the benefits the ID cards offer to local veterans, especially those who do not already have a military retirement ID issued by the VA.

The Ohio Veteran ID cards can be issued by a county recorder or county veterans services office to make it easier for veterans to access government benefits and receive discounts at restaurants and retailers. Any Ohio veteran can apply for the identification card by filing their DD214 with the county along with some additional identification. Following the passage of HB 173 last year, many counties across the state have started issuing these cards as a benefit for veterans.

“I think this is a great convenience to our vets,” said Perales. “The women and men who fight in our armed forces deserve every recognition we can give them. I was proud to work on the bill that made this possible, and it’s great to see our work in Columbus translate back home. I appreciate Greene County Recorder Eric Sears for taking the initiative to get this program up in running in the county.”

Perales is serving his third term in the Ohio House. He serves the 73rd House District, which includes the western portion of Greene County, including Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
