State Representative Rick Perales (R-Beavercreek) received the “Legislator of the Year” Award by AMVETS, an organization that assists veterans and their families upon returning home. He received the award on Saturday, February 14th during its annual mid-winter conference.

"I'm honored to be presented with this award by the American Veterans,” Perales said. “One of my top priorities since day one of my term in Columbus was to ensure those men and women who served our country in the military are provided every opportunity to assimilate seamlessly into society.  Whether it's job training, job placement,

Perales, an Air Force veteran whose military career includes being Commander of the 788th Civil Engineer Squadron at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, is serving his second term in the Ohio House. He is the only current member of the General Assembly to be inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame.

During his first term in the House, Perales introduced legislation that would allow veterans and fraternal organizations to continue operating video raffle machines, which raise millions of dollars for charities across Ohio. He initiated and sponsored the first ever Greene County Veterans Summit - bringing all veteran-related services to a single location and time for veterans and their families to better understand the vast amount of resources available to them. He also joined several of his Republican colleagues in supporting a resolution demanding that veterans’ disability benefits be administered by the federal government in a significantly more timely fashion.

Perales serves on four House standing committees, including being vice chair of the Armed Services, Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee. He is also the chairman of the Ohio Aerospace and Aviation Technology Committee.
