COLUMBUS – State Representative Rick Perales (R-Beavercreek) today announced his support to name the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base the new United States Space Command Headquarters.

Perales and House Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford) are sending a formal commendation to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to congratulate them for their nomination.

“Ohio is home to many fine institutions that support Ohio’s aeronautical pioneers. Our great state represents the best and the brightest minds in our nation that have tackled problems and challenges of space travel and space-based threats with steadfastness and composure. That is why I strongly recommend the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base be named the new United States Space Command Headquarters,” said Householder.

The institutions that support Ohio’s mission of aeronautical advancements include the following:

  • The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

  • The National Air and Space Intelligence Center

  • The Air Force Research Laboratory

  • Ohio’s NASA Glenn Research Center

  • The Springfield Air National Guard Base, 178th Wing, 124th Intelligence Squadron, 125th Intelligence Squadron, 126th Intelligence Squadron and 127th Intelligence Squadron

  • The Air Force Institute of Technology in Ohio

  • The 18th Intelligence Squadron in Ohio

“Ohio goes above and beyond to meet all requirements to host the US Space Command Headquarters. As an Air Force veteran and advocate for making Ohio the most military and family-friendly and veteran-friendly state in the union, I believe there is no better place to land the headquarters than the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base,” stated Perales.

Ohio state legislators have recently been focusing their time and efforts on bringing the lives of military members, their families and veterans to normalcy.

In the 133rd General Assembly alone, Perales and his colleagues have passed the following legislation:

  • Senate Bill 7, which would create a simple, straightforward process for military members and their spouses to continue practicing in their profession by obtaining an Ohio temporary or full license

  • House Bill 18, which exempts military veterans disability severance pay from income tax

  • House Bill 16, which grants state college residency status to military dependents

  • House Bill 287, which provides Medicaid waivers for military families with special needs dependents in Ohio

The presentation of this citation comes on the heels of a nomination letter sent to Secretary John Henderson from Beavercreek Mayor Bob Stone and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine.
