COLUMBUS—During this week’s session, the Ohio House of Representatives passed a resolution urging the United States Missile Defense Agency (MDA) to select Camp Ravenna Joint Military Training Center in Ravenna, Ohio, as the preferred site for a future east coast Missile Defense system.

Before being approved on the House floor, Senate Concurrent Resolution 8 was vetted and passed by the Ohio House Armed Services, Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security Committee.

Representative Rick Perales (R-Beavercreek), a proud co-sponsor of the bill, released the following statement following Wednesday’s House session:

“This resolution is the final piece of the puzzle to support our federal delegation so they may continue to advocate for Camp Ravenna’s selection. The MDA is currently reviewing sites for the installation of additional ground-based interceptors for homeland defense, specific to the eastern United States. While similar missile defense sites already protect the western seaboard of the US, no such sites exist to defend the eastern seaboard. Camp Ravenna’s location in Ohio and the US makes it uniquely qualified for the installation of the east coast missile defense system, which will defend several large metropolitan areas, including New York City, Washington D.C., and Chicago.

“The current project estimates indicate an initial $4.6 billion-dollar investment and the creation of nearly 2,000 construction and development jobs. Once complete, the site will staff anywhere from 500-800 full-time employees with upwards of a $30 million-dollar annual economic impact. Imagine what this investment could do for not only the region, but the entire state and country.”
