Rep. Lipps Announces Passage of House Bill 262
COLUMBUS – State Representative Scott Lipps (R-Franklin) announced today that the Ohio House of Representatives has passed legislation to help increase awareness about prostate cancer and preemptive screenings for the disease. The measure, part of House Bill 262, would create the “Zero” license plate, with words and markings designed to increase awareness and urge men to participate in these preventative efforts.
More than two million men are living with prostate cancer, which represents 25 percent of all cancer diagnoses in male Ohioans between 2009 and 2013. It’s the third leading cause of cancer death in Ohio men, and disproportionately affects veterans. With numbers as high as these, it is becoming overwhelmingly imperative for men to receive life-saving screenings, however, only 44 percent of Ohio males were screened for prostate cancer in 2014.
“The importance of preemptive screenings is evident in the statistics,” Lipps said. “I am proud to be part of a plan that will bring attention to an organization like Zero, that works to provide male Ohioans with the useful tools and information that they need in order to protect themselves from this tragic disease.”
House Bill 262, which contains the language from HB 107, passed the House on May 19th and heads to the Senate for consideration.
