Rep. Manning Congratulates The City Of Avon Lake For Earning Safety Capital Grant
Grants will help fund public safety projects in local communities

State Representative Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) today congratulated the City of Avon Lake for being named a recipient of the Local Government Safety Capital Grant funds.

Initiated by the Ohio House of Representatives and included in the state operating budget for fiscal years 2016 and 2017, these grants can be used to help fund public safety projects in local communities throughout Ohio.

Local governments could apply for the grants for eligible projects, but the funding must be used for purchasing vehicles, equipment, facilities and/or systems utilized by police, fire, and/or EMS providers to enhance public safety.

“I am pleased that the City of Avon Lake, along with their partners in Avon and Sheffield Lake, have received funds to update several important aspects of their community,” Manning said.  “It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of the leaders of our community helping to keep all of us safe, including our first responders.”

The grant will provide funding to update Avon Lake’s, Avon, and Sheffield Lake’s limited digital communication technology. Communication updates in their police vehicles and base station, as well as radio equipment are provided under the grant. Furthermore, a P25 platform, P25 support communication, P25 voter tower, and support communication upgrades will also be implemented.

The Local Government Innovation Council administers the program.
