Rep. Lepore-Hagan Advocates For Removal Of Youngstown Academic Distress Commission
Calls for an end to failed state takeovers of public schools

State Rep. Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) today released the following statement regarding Senate Bill 89, a bill that included language to create a path for ending the “Youngstown Plan” and restore local control to public schools.

“Our children and Ohio’s families have been counting on us to do the right thing and deliver on our promise for a better, brighter future. Today, I voted in favor of an amendment that will end state takeovers, support our local communities and teachers, and invest in public education.

“I’m calling on my colleagues in the Ohio Senate, and Governor DeWine, to join us in supporting the next generation of Ohioans, no matter their zip code. It’s time to free the kids in Youngstown, Lorain, and East Cleveland from this failed experiment. It’s time to reinstate local control and give teachers, parents, community leaders and residents the opportunity to create a school system that will best enable our children to reach their full potential. It’s time to push the restart button for our kids’ sakes.”
