Michael J. O'Brien - House District 64

For Representative Michael O’Brien, public service means more than a title; it is a way of life.  O’Brien’s experience in community leadership, from county and city governments to working with schools and law enforcement, gives him a deep understanding of the needs of the people living and working in the 64th District. He brings his decades-long experience with him to Columbus and looks forward to fighting for the hardworking people in the 64th District.

O’Brien, a JFK High School grad from Warren, Ohio, went to college at Youngstown State University.  Shortly after earning his degree, O’Brien began his career in public service.  He was elected Councilman in Warren, Ohio, where he served for 10 years.  This post afforded him the opportunity to get to know the people in his community, their needs, and how to best serve them.  As County Commissioner, O’Brien dealt with a host of issues affecting his friends and neighbors.  In 2005, he l took the next step and ran for Mayor of Warren, where he served until 2012.  He also served on the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission under Gov. Strickland.

In addition to fighting for his community politically, Rep. O’Brien remains active in his community socially, holding posts at the Sons of the American Legion, Trumbull Memorial Hospital, and the United Way. He is also a member of the Warren City Democrats, AHEPA, the Slovak Club, Moose and Elks.

Rep. O’Brien is passionate about helping people in his community and brings that passion with him to Columbus. He is focused on creating quality jobs that make a difference in the lives of so many families.  He is determined to fight for jobs that make it easier for families to send kids to college and live better lives.  That has been the hallmark of O’Brien’s career. He fights for his values, his neighbors, and his community.  Now that he represents Ohio’s 64th District, his passion has a new outlet— and he embraces the challenge.
