COLUMBUS -

tate Representative Mike Henne (R-Clayton) announced today that he will hold an essay contest in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Day. This year’s Teacher Appreciation Day falls on May 5th.

Representative Henne believes that Ohio’s students are the best observers of the wonderful work of our teachers. This is why he wants to know what advice students of the 40th Ohio House District would give new teachers. Applicants should describe what he or she sees in a current teacher that he or she would like new teachers to emulate. All students from grades K-12 are permitted to participate.

“We can all think back to a teacher who touched our life and I would like to hear the stories of today’s students,” said Representative Henne.

Students should share their thoughts in 350 words or fewer and submit their essays by May 1st. Each entry must include: student’s name, grade, school and district, the teacher’s name and subject taught. Students should write about one of their current teachers. Entries should be emailed to Rep40@OhioHouse.Gov with the subject line “Great Teaching Essay.” Handwritten entries should be scanned and emailed.

Representative Henne will announce the winners in May in conjunction with Teacher Appreciation Week. He will visit the winning student/teacher’s classroom to deliver award certificates and honor the winners.
