COLUMBUS – State Reps. Michael J. Skindell (D-Lakewood) and Michele Grim (D-Toledo) today provided sponsor testimony on House Bill (HB) 174 which would establish and operate The Ohio Health Care Plan.

“Financing of health care in this state is broken, and it is a sad reality that many Ohioans are one health crisis away from financial ruin,” said Rep. Skindell. “Health care access is a human right, no one should be denied health care based on economic status or employment. Single-payer health care lessens the burden on workers and employers alike.”

“I am proud to be a joint sponsor for The Ohio Health Care Plan. Single payer healthcare and reduced drug costs are efforts that would make genuine differences in the lives of every single Ohioan. Ohioans are struggling under our current system, they deserve a chance to access the healthcare they need without fear of bankruptcy or medical debt,” said Rep. Grim.

Rep. Skindell has introduced this legislation in the previous 10 General Assemblies.

HB 174 will provide health care for all Ohioans through the creation of the Ohio Health Care Plan. It will provide single-payer universal access to quality health care, dental care, and vision services.

House Bill 174 now awaits additional hearings in the House Insurance Committee.
