Vistra Proposes Affordable and Reliable Energy Options for Ohioans

June 26, 2023
Dick Stein News

COLUMBUS- After meeting with representatives from Vistra, Rep. Dick Stein (R-Norwalk), Chairman of the House Public Utilities Committee, announced that the energy company will be good for Ohioans and the local economy.

Earlier this year, Vistra – which already operates power plants in Ohio – announced its plan to acquire Energy Harbor and Ohio’s two existing nuclear generation facilities, Davis-Besse and Perry. Both plants are near Rep. Stein’s district and employ hundreds of Ohioans. They significantly contribute to our state’s economy, electricity affordability, and reliability.

“After meeting with Vistra representatives, it’s absolutely clear to me that this deal is a winner for my constituents and all Ohioans,” said Stein. “I strongly encourage federal regulators to advance approval of the acquisition.”

Combined, the Davis-Besse and Perry nuclear facilities generate clean, around-the-clock electricity for millions of homes in Ohio and across the broader region. These two facilities employ nearly 1,200 Ohioans in high-paying careers and are vital economic engines for the greater Oak Harbor and Perry communities. Vistra’s investment in Ohio brings a welcomed fresh perspective, organizational culture, and commitment to safety that’s key to the continued operation of these facilities moving forward.

“I’m appreciative of Vistra’s investment in Ohio and commitment to this state and look forward to this deal passing customary federal regulatory approvals,” Stein added.
