Extremists Shamelessly Promote Hate, State-Sponsored Bullying With Passage of Anti-Trans Bill

December 14, 2023

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Beth Liston (D-Dublin) today denounced the passage of House Bill (HB) 68, anti-trans legislation, that would ban gender affirming care and ban trans kids from participating in sports passed Wednesday by the Ohio House of Representatives.

“This bill will directly harm many vulnerable struggling children and families who deserve accurate medical information and appropriate medical care, and indirectly harm the 2.2 million kids in our state by usurping parents’ rights, decreasing mental health care access, and undermining the best pediatric children’s hospitals in the country,” said Rep. Liston

So far in 2023, there have been more than 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced in states across the US. This is just one of many factors prompting the Human Rights Campaign to declare a “State of Emergency” for LGTBQ+ Americans.

Here is the list of all of the Medical Associations that came out and spoke in opposition to the bill:

Ohio Children’s Hospital Association
Cincinnati Children’s & Medical center
Akron Children’s, Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics
NASW-Ohio
Equitas
Ohio Psychological Association
Ohio Counseling Association
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital
Cleveland Clinic Children’s
Physicians Action Network
Medical Student-Physician Action Network
Nationwide Children’s Hospital
Dayton Children’s Hospital
UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s
Lifestance Health
GRACE - Gender Research Advisory Council
Find Your Way Counseling and Consulting
The Ohio Council of Behavioral Health Providers

House Democrats continue to put people first and will always stand with the LGTBQ+ community, championing legislation that protects their rights and recognizes them as vital members of our communities, no matter who you are.
