Martin J. Sweeney (D-Cleveland) was officially sworn in to the Ohio House of Representatives Monday as State Representative to the 14th House District. Rep. Sweeney, elected to his first term in the House in November, will serve the citizens of Brooklyn, Brook Park, Middleburg Heights, Parma Heights and large portions of Cleveland’s west side in Cuyahoga County.

“I am honored to serve the citizens of Ohio’s 14th House District, and I look forward to working hard everyday to bring the voices of our community to the Statehouse.” said Rep. Sweeney. “I serve with the same level of value and commitment as a State Representative that I did when I was a part of Cleveland City Council.”

Rep. Sweeney was elected to Cleveland City Council, representing Ward 16, beginning in 1997 and served a total of 18 years on city council. In 2005, Rep. Sweeney was unanimously elected President of Cleveland City Council, a position he held through 2013.

A proud graduate of St. Ignatius High School, Rep. Sweeney went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in political science from Cleveland State University.

Rep. Sweeney and his wife, Katherine, have four daughters and reside across from Jefferson Park.
