L-R: Catherine Riordan, Emma Larkin-Gero, State Rep. Marlene Anielski

State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Independence) recently presented House commendations to 10 Girl Scouts from the 6th House District for earning the Gold Award, which is the highest honor that can be awarded to a Girl Scout.

Only 5 percent of eligible Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts nationally earn the award. Gold Award Girl Scouts have demonstrated a higher commitment not only to improving their communities, but also to advocating for lasting change. From March 1st, 2012 to February 28th, 2013, 58 Girl Scouts in an 18-county region of Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio earned the Gold Award.

“I am pleased to have been able to help honor all of these outstanding young ladies,” Rep Anielski said. “Becoming a Gold Award Recipient requires hard work, dedication and love of their communities. Congratulations to all the recipients and their families."

The Gold Award ceremony was held on Saturday, June 15th at the John S. Knight Center in Akron with hundreds of family and friends of the recipients.
