HIGHLAND HEIGHTS—State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) was pleased to present a commendation to a Bronze Star Medal recipient on Veterans Day.

Corporal Michael Barna, who served in the United States Marine Corps, was awarded a Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” for service in the Vietnam War.  While on patrol on April 26, 1967 Corporal Barna’s unit received heavy fire from enemy forces. Corporal Barna left his covered position and exposed himself to enemy fire in order to help protect and aid two of his wounded comrades.

“It’s an honor to be able to recognize the patriotic actions of Mr. Barna,” Rep Anielski said. “It is through these selfless acts of heroism that we are able to preserve our freedoms.”

Corporal Barna was presented this distinguished award during the City of Highland Heights Veterans Day Celebration. Mayor Scott Coleman, Representative Dave Joyce, and a representative from U.S. Senator Rob Portman’s office were also in attendance.
