COLUMBUS—State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) announced that the Ohio House has passed legislation that modernizes Ohio’s Disabilities Commission. Substitute Senate Bill 144 consolidates the Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities Commission, the Consumer Advisory Committee, and the Governor’s Council on People with Disabilities into a single council: The Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities Council.

Sub S.B. 144 reduces the 45-member commission to a single 15-member body with a majority of the membership comprised of persons with disabilities. Ohio will have a more effective and streamlined approach with the consolidated commission.

“I am proud to have worked, along with my colleagues in the State and Local Government Committee, to reform how Ohio works with its disabled citizens,” said Rep. Anielski. “I believe the bill will help our state government more effectively serve our friends and neighbors.”

Sub. S.B. 144 now awaits the signature of the governor.
