INDEPENDENCE—State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) commended the St. Michael’s 8th grade boys basketball team on its victory in the 2018 Our Lady of Angels Tournament.

“I am proud to see such a well-rounded team of young men play well,” said Rep. Anielski. “Their performance is a testament to themselves and their coaches. I look forward to seeing them grow and wish them continued success in their high school careers!”

The team, consisting of Danny Traina, Jacob Anielski, Jimmy Malz, Dino Anthony, Victor DeGeronimo, and Jimmy Boyle, were awarded the tournament trophy in recognition of their performance and commitment to sportsmanlike conduct.

“Having not coached in the last seven years, and not knowing anyone on the team, I was not sure what to expect from these boys. Their examples of sportsmanship, comradery, exuberance, and faith reminded me of what I was missing,” said head coach, Steve Ficyk. “Each player played hard without consideration of individual goals, but rather with a focus on team achievement. Each player worked to improve their skills and learned together what a team can achieve. They won with humility and lost with grace. Together these six boys exceeded everyone’s expectations. I look forward to following all these young men and witness the great things in their future.”
