State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) has announced the passage of the “Protect Local Treasuries Act.”

House Bill 291 seeks to update the mandatory process by which local governments purchase bonds to protect against unfaithful acts of public officials. It would allow certain political subdivisions to purchase insurance instead of bonds to protect its treasury—and thereby taxpayer dollars—in the event of dishonest or fraudulent actions by an elected or public official. The bill modernizes a practice that has been in place in Ohio for more than sixty years, saving local government’s time, resources, and money.

“I am proud to support House Bill 291 through my committee and now by my colleagues in the House of Representatives,” said Rep. Anielski. “I will continue to work to make sure that our municipalities and political subdivisions get the support they require from the State of Ohio in order to meet the needs of their citizens.”

House Bill 291, a part of the “Buckeye Pathway” agenda, now awaits consideration by the Ohio Senate.
