COLUMBUS -

State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Independence) has announced the Ohio House of Representatives today passed House Bill 177, which modifies current regulations regarding motor vehicle air bag replacement by prohibiting the manufacturing, sale or installation of a counterfeit or nonfunctional air bag.

The legislation also prohibits the installation of an object intended to fulfill the function of an air bag that is not in compliance with safety standards and the sale or installation of a device in a vehicle that causes the diagnostic system to falsely indicate the vehicle is equipped with a functional air bag.

“The automotive industry is extremely important in Ohio and we need to make sure the purchasers of vehicles are safe while driving,” said Rep. Anielski. “Protection of consumers is a top priority while eliminating illegitimate manufacturers.”

House Bill 177 will now move to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
