State Representative Mark Romanchuk (R-Ontario) today applauded the addition of an amendment to Am. Sub. House Bill 64, the state budget bill, that would create the Ohio Military Facilities Commission.

The commission would be tasked with providing state funding to military installations in Ohio to ensure that they are prepared for the upcoming Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC). Totaling $5 million over the biennium, the funds would be available to state and federal installation projects.  Projects would be considered by a board comprised of cabinet members and legislators from the General Assembly.

Rep. Romanchuk released the following statement in support of the amendment:

“I want to first thank Speaker Rosenberger for his dutiful work on this issue and making certain that the Ohio Military Facilities Commission was created as part of the House’s budget plan. I am pleased with the prospect of ensuring that Ohio’s military installations, such as the one in Mansfield, have the funding they need to support jobs, provide national defense and build up our communities. Preparing for BRAC is imperative for Mansfield’s Air National Guard unit and our country’s defense and I look forward to continuing to work with the Speaker, my colleagues in the House and Senate, and those in the military community to encourage and support the creation of this commission.

Rep. Romanchuk is currently serving his second term in the House. He represents the 2nd District, which includes all of Richland County.
