COLUMBUS -

State Representatives Tim Derickson (R-Hanover Twp.) and Mark Romanchuk (R-Ontario) today applauded the announcement by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted that it is now easier and cheaper to start a new business in Ohio as a result of a recent initiative to reduce business filing fees.

Made possible by Substitute House Bill 3, which was championed through the legislature by Reps. Derickson and Romanchuk, new business owners will experience a 21 percent cost reduction in filing for a new business with the state. The bill officially becomes effective today.

“HB 3 provides a strong message to the entrepreneurs in our state that we are here to promote growth and strengthen Ohio,” Rep. Derickson said. “These changes, made possible by Secretary Husted and the legislature, will help Ohio to continue the momentum we have picked up in recent years in regards to job creation and economic development.”

“I want to thank Secretary Husted for his work and support on this issue,” said Rep. Romanchuk. “Keeping Ohio competitive and increasing jobs are both crucial to the state’s success and I’m glad to have been a part of an initiative that helps small businesses, our communities and Ohio families.”

To initiate a new business, owners are required to file with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office. House Bill 3 lowered the filing fee from $125 to $99—a reduction of 21 percent, making it less expensive for small businesses to get started in Ohio.

Streamlining access to the job search site, OhioMeansJobs, was also a priority of the bill. The legislation worked to ensure that Ohio-based companies that are in good standing have access to the website and its various functions by developing deadlines for employers to have equal access over the next 18-24 months. The bill also requires that Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) annually report information regarding usage on the site including the number of jobs posted by employers and the number of resumes on the site that were aggregated from other websites.
