State Representative Mark Romanchuk (R-Ontario) today announced that the Ohio House of Representatives passed legislation that relaxes hunting restrictions on deer or wild turkey for those on active military duty.

House Bill 165 allows an individual on active military duty on leave, to hunt deer or wild turkey without obtaining a deer or wild turkey permit. Current law authorizes such individuals to fish, hunt any wild bird or wild quadruped, and trap fur-bearing animals without a fishing or hunting license, fur taker permit, or wetlands habitat stamp.

“Our military personnel are protecting our way of life and freedom, and this is the least we can do for them,” said Rep. Romanchuk.

The legislation would only apply to currently serving military members who reside within Ohio. Documentation of military duty must be carried by the individual when hunting.

House Bill 165 must now undergo consideration by the Ohio Senate.
