COLUMBUS -

State Representative Marilyn Slaby (R-Copley) today applauded the Ohio House of Representatives’ vote to agree with the Senate changes to House Bill 2, which requires all applicants for unemployment insurance to register with OhioMeansJobs.com prior to applying for benefits.

The legislation also requires applicants to make direct contact with their local Ohio Means Jobs office by the eighth week of unemployment benefits. These requirements aim to ensure that unemployment insurance applicants and recipients are maximizing their job-searching opportunities and will help connect the patchwork of different services that exist for individuals on unemployment insurance.

“With Ohio being recently announced as the number-one state for job creation in the country, this bill provides another option for citizens to find work,” Rep. Slaby said. “We are committed to working diligently to continually improve the economy here in the state of Ohio.”

With both the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate passing House Bill 2, it will now be sent to Governor Kasich for his signature.
