State Representative Louis W Blessing III (R-Colerain) today applauded the passage of House Bill 444, legislation allowing bars to offer free alcohol tasting samples to customers.

“Being able to provide free samples of alcohol to customers is a common sense initiative for businesses,” said Blessing. “By allowing a customer to try a new beer, wine, or liquor before purchasing it, allows for greater customer satisfaction. This will also allow customers to try something new without a commitment.”

House Bill 444 allows A-1-A, A-1c, and certain D liquor permit holders to provide up to four free tasting samples of beer, wine, and liquor in a 24-hour period to any person ages 21 and older. A tasting sample is considered to be two ounces of beer, two ounces of wine, or a quarter ounce of spirituous liquor. These samples must be consumed on the permit holder’s premises. The qualified permit holders may choose to provide free samples to customers or not.

House Bill 444 passed with bipartisan support and now heads to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
