After an especially long and hot summer this year, autumn has finally arrived. There is a little nip in the air, school and football season are in full swing, and the jackets are dug out from the back of the closet. With the change of the seasons comes an abundance of fall festivals, where pumpkin picking and cider drinking are fully expected. I’d like to take a moment to highlight some remarkable festivals taking place in the Cincinnati region.

This weekend, on the third full weekend of October, the 2016 Minges and Weber Family Pumpkin Festival will take place in Harrison. The festival has a rich history in southwestern Ohio, having been held annually by the Minges family since 1984. Over the years it has grown into a blossoming event that has enjoyed the partnership of the Weber family since 2015. The family-friendly festival has activities for all ages—live music from local bands, straw mazes and pony rides, and games like a pumpkin pie eating contest. Not to mention, it also boasts a diverse selection of over 150 arts and craft vendors. I highly recommend taking your family over to their farm location to enjoy an array of fall activities!

A little later this fall and a bit closer to the Christmas season, the 19th Annual Germania Christkindlmarkt will take place in Colerain Township on the weekend of November 20 through November 22. This unique festival is the oldest and most authentic German-themed Christmas market in southwestern Ohio, and it is sure to not disappoint you and your family! It not only offers holiday entertainment, carriage rides, and traditional German food, but it is known for its extensive shopping opportunities. From homemade foods and crafts to imported German goods, the market’s shopping venue is a great chance to pick up a couple of special Christmas gifts for your loved ones.

The Cincinnati region is home to a diverse culture, with a wealth of different kinds of restaurants and entertainment. It seems there is always a new place to try or something fun to do over the weekends—that’s why I love this place, the place I call home, so much. This fall, I hope you and your family will take advantage of how beautiful the season is in Ohio and enjoy some local festivals before the busy holiday season is upon us. The Minges and Weber Family Pumpkin Festival and the Annual Germania Christkindlmarkt are two of my favorites to attend, and I hope they will become staples in your family’s traditions!
