The state transportation budget is one of four parts that form the overall budget proposal, and it is of great significance. 08.19.15 - Guest Column By State Representative Bill Blessing: Ohio Operating Budget Moves State Forward

Perhaps the most important responsibility of the Ohio General Assembly is determining how the state spends its money. The process of crafting a state budget begins when the Governor introduces his spending proposal to the Ohio House of Representatives. From there, the House and the Senate make their respective changes and the two chambers meet to iron out the differences between their versions of the budget. After they vote on the final budget bill, it is sent to the Governor to be signed into law. Earlier this summer, the General Assembly passed Am. Sub. House Bill 64, the state operating budget for fiscal years 2016 and 2017.

Ohio’s ballot initiative process allows the public, through petition, to put proposals on the ballot to amend the Ohio constitution.  This century old instrument of Ohio democracy is an integral part of our system of government. 06.23.15 - Guest Column: House Bill 155 Would Help Ohioans With Disabilities Save Money

Many Ohioans living with disabilities rely on public assistance for supplemental income, health care, and food and housing assistance. Many of these public benefits require a means test that limits eligibility if an individual reports more than $2000 in cash savings. In an effort to help, our national policy has unintentionally made it difficult for Americans with disabilities to lift themselves up and out of poverty. The Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act was signed into federal law in December 2014, in order to improve national policy regarding public benefits for Americans living with disabilities. The next step is for each state to pass its own version of the law to help its citizens with disabilities.
