08.19.15 - Guest Column By State Representative Bill Blessing: Ohio Operating Budget Moves State Forward

 

Perhaps the most important responsibility of the Ohio General Assembly is determining how the state spends its money. The process of crafting a state budget begins when the Governor introduces his spending proposal to the Ohio House of Representatives. From there, the House and the Senate make their respective changes and the two chambers meet to iron out the differences between their versions of the budget. After they vote on the final budget bill, it is sent to the Governor to be signed into law. Earlier this summer, the General Assembly passed Am. Sub. House Bill 64, the state operating budget for fiscal years 2016 and 2017.

However, we have seen a disturbing trend across the United States of private economic interests attempting to distort the ballot initiative process by embedding special monopolistic privileges in state constitutions.

Representative Louis W Blessing III (R-Colerain) announced today that Ohio’s first-ever, one-time Sales Tax Holiday will begin on Friday, August 7th at 12:01 a.m. and will end on Sunday, August 9th at 11:59 p.m. This initiative was created through Senate Bill 243, signed into law in December of 2014.

The Ohio House of Representatives today passed House Bill 116 with broad bipartisan support. This bill seeks to provide for partial drug prescription refills for the purpose of synchronizing multiple prescriptions for one patient. State Representative Louis W.
