COLUMBUS—State Representative Laura Lanese (R-Grove City) today applauded the Ohio House’s passage of legislation granting certain veterans’ organizations an exemption from property taxes.

House Bill 24, sponsored by Rep. Tim Ginter (R-Salem), expands a current tax exemption for property to qualifying 501(c)(4) veterans’ organizations that are exempt from federal income tax. Property that is not used for meetings, administrative needs, or to provide programs or services is excluded from this exemption.

“Having been brought up in a military family, I recognize the importance of gathering places for those who have defended our nation,” said Rep. Lanese. “This legislation seeks to alleviate some of the tax burden required from our veterans in order to make their lives a little easier. I am happy to cosponsor this bill and support all of our state’s veterans.”

House Bill 24 now heads to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
