State Representatives Larry Householder (R-Glenford) and Darrell Kick (R-Loudonville) testified today during the House Energy and Natural Resources Committee in support of legislation they introduced in June that will update Ohio’s hunting and fishing laws.

The legislation, House Bill 272, will allow partially disabled veterans to receive a free hunting and fishing license. Currently, only totally disabled veterans are eligible for this benefit.

“A veteran shouldn’t have to be totally disabled before we show our appreciation and respect for their service,” Representative Householder said. “This legislation shows respect to our veterans and their families for their sacrifice.”

The legislation also allows all grandchildren to hunt and fish on their grandparents’ property. Under current law, a grandchild is allowed to hunt on the property of his or her grandparent without a license up to the age of 18. House Bill 272 eliminates this arbitrary age limit.

“Hunting and fishing are lifetime family activities,” said Representative Kick.  “They should be encouraged, not hindered by arbitrary government laws."
