COLUMBUS -

State Representative Kristina Daley Roegner (R-Hudson) yesterday presented a House resolution to Hudson High School sophomore Ross Palazzo for his victories at the state championship for swimming.

Palazzo won the Ohio State High School Division 1 championship in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breast stroke. He was also voted the “Swimmer of the Meet” at the competition.

"Ross Palazzo's unwavering determination, tremendous talents and hard work have yielded him these well-deserved state titles,” said Roegner. “We are so proud of Ross."

Palazzo has broken 15 Hudson High School team, pool and school records, including one held by Olympian Mark Gangloff and more than 20 school, pool and meet records in the Northeast Ohio Conference (NOC) during the 2013 season.

His other accomplishments include winning the NOC Scholar Athlete Award in 2012 and 2013, four NOC conference championship titles, and earning the fourth-fastest time ever swam by a 16-year-old in the 200-yard breast stroke event.

Palazzo volunteers for Make a Splash, where he teaches swimming to children from Akron City Schools. He also volunteers for the Special Olympics golf and swim teams. This summer he will compete in the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championships and World Championship Trials in Indiana, as well as the 2013 Speedo Junior National Championships in California.

Rep. Roegner presented the House resolution to Palazzo during Wednesday’s session of the Ohio House of Representatives.
