COLUMBUS -

State Representative Kristina Daley Roegner (R-Hudson) today announced that the Ohio House has passed House Bill 318, which clarifies certain laws pertaining to motor vehicle dealers.

Specifically, the legislation allows vehicle dealers to display more than one vehicle off-site from their licensed location if it is being done for an educational purpose. The idea for the bill resulted from a high school in the 37th Ohio House District, which Roegner represents, wanting to host an event to raise money for its parent-teacher organization. Part of the event included partnering with a nearby motor vehicle dealer and offering test drives. Under current Ohio law, however, such a practice is not allowed.

“HB 318 makes some common sense changes to Ohio law,” Roegner said. “I am always glad when a constituent brings to my attention an issue they are facing that I can help them solve through the legislative process.”

The bill also adds retail sellers to the list of businesses that can apply for registration and obtain special tags for transporting trailers. This provision is in response to cases when retailers sell trailers to customers, who then illegally transport the trailer off the lot.

The bill passed the House unanimously, and it now awaits hearings in the Ohio Senate.
