COLUMBUS—State Representative Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) today applauded the Ohio House’s concurrence on Senate changes to House Bill 165, legislation to exempt certified hyperbaric technologists from the laws governing the practice of respiratory care.

According to House Bill 165, certified hyperbaric technologists are required to administer hyperbaric oxygen therapy under the direct supervision of a physician.

“I love the fact that I am able to help those people in my district who bring ideas to me for common sense legislation to address problems in Ohio’s law,” said Rep. Roegner. “Allowing certified hyperbaric technicians to operate hyperbaric chambers under the direct supervision of a physician; that is common sense.”

The Senate added a provision to include advance practice nurses and physician assistance in the list of individuals under whose supervision a person may perform hyperbaric oxygen therapy to qualify for the bill’s exemption. A provision was also added to require exempted individuals to file with the Respiratory Care Board a copy of the person’s current certification as a certified hyperbaric technologist in accordance with rules adopted by the board, and to pay a filing fee, established by the board, not to exceed $20.

House Bill 165 now awaits Governor Kasich’s signature.
