Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) and State Representative Kirk Schuring (R-Canton) announced that the screening panel for the vacant 89th House District seat has unanimously recommended Ottawa County Commissioner Steven Arndt for the appointment. Representative Schuring chaired the screening panel, which interviewed applicants earlier this month.

“I commend each of the applicants who interviewed for the vacant seat; the screening panel had a difficult decision to make as each person brought unique strengths to the position,” Rep. Schuring said. “However, we are pleased to welcome Steven Arndt to the Ohio House. I believe his lifelong commitment to public service and to Ottawa County will be an asset to the Ohio House and the 89th District.”

Arndt has served as an Ottawa County commissioner for 27 years, assisting on several different committees during his tenure, from the Human Services and Workforce Development Committee to the Jobs, Economic Development, and Infrastructure Committee. His dedication to public service spans even deeper than his long career as a county commissioner as Arndt also has experience with the Area Office on Aging, the Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce, and other local government entities.

In addition to his illustrious career in public service, he has also been a small business owner and operator for 39 years. Arndt resides in Port Clinton with his wife of 41 years, Joanne. He will be sworn in during House session on Wednesday, September 30th.
