Clyde To Serve On Ohio House Legislative Panels
Will work with colleagues to help shape public policy

State Rep. Kathleen Clyde (D-Kent) today announced the committees on which she will serve to help shape and refine public policy.


“I am honored by the opportunity to be ranking member on Government Accountability and Oversight, in addition to the other critical committee assignments I was chosen for,” said Rep. Clyde. “I look forward to bringing my expertise and commitment to voting rights to the table. Each of my committees will address critical issues for the future of Ohio, and I welcome the opportunity to work directly on all of these important matters.”


Rep. Clyde will be ranking member on Government Accountability and Oversight and will serve on the following committees:


-Finance and Appropriations Committee
-Public Utilities
-Finance and Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation


The House of Representatives has 19 standing committees. House Republicans have slightly altered the committee structure for the 131st General Assembly, splitting state and local government into two separate committees and adding the Community and Family Advancement Committee.


Committee meetings are crucial to the formation of laws; legislative proposals must be vetted through the committee process before full consideration by the House, allowing opponents and proponents to present testimony and voice opinions and creating the opportunity for alterations and improvements to legislation. Committees are open to the public and held any time before or after House floor sessions.

Clyde Statement On Court Order Reinstating Voting Rights For Purged Voters

Kathleen Clyde (D-Kent) today issued a statement following a recent federal court order requiring Secretary Husted to issue a directive reinstating the “APRI exception.” The court-ordered directive will require purged voters’ ballots to be counted in the upcoming central Ohio congressional race that will occur next Tuesday, August 7. 



 
 

Clyde: Back-to-school Sales Tax Holiday Starts This Weekend

 

Today State Rep. Kathleen Clyde (D-Kent) announced Ohio’s back-to-school sales tax-free holiday scheduled for this weekend, August 3-5, a result of the passage of Senate Bill (SB) 226. The annual event helps lessen the sting of the 4.5 percent statewide sales tax hike passed by Republican lawmakers in the 2013 state budget. Since 2013, the tax hike has cost taxpayers almost $2 billion according to state data.



 
 

Rep. Clyde Denounces Pay Raises For Retirement System Executives

 

State Rep. Kathleen Clyde (D-Kent) today denounced the School Employees Retirement System (SERS) of Ohio’s decision to raise salaries of its employees, including highly paid executives, by 3 percent while a three-year freeze on cost of living adjustments (COLA) for retirees is in place.
