COLUMBUS— In a formal letter sent to Gov. Mike DeWine yesterday, State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) outlined the major concerns facing her school districts as the governor begins his plan to reopen Ohio.

“All six school districts in my House District have concerns regarding the safety of their students and staff should schools reopen in the fall,” said Rep. Brent. “School districts are also looking for timely guidance so they may prepare for the 2020-2021 school year.”

Among some of the top concerns listed were increasing internet connectivity in neighborhoods, providing every student with their own Chromebook for an enhanced remote learning experience and right-sizing state report cards to account for the COVID-19 circumstances.

In addition to listing the top concerns from school districts, the letter also provides ideas on how the state could fund safety improvement measures such as hand sanitization stations throughout school buildings, daily temperature checks for students and staff alike and funding for personal protective equipment (PPE), including face masks and the sanitization of them for re-use.
