COLUMBUS—The following statement may be attributed to State Representative Jonathan Dever (R-Madeira) regarding House Bill 529:

“While I support the overwhelming majority of the Hamilton County projects in the capital budget, including many within my district, I have a fundamental objection to the $4 million allocated to FC Cincinnati. The use of these funds on a speculative, private business interest is not appropriate. Our state and region have real and immediate needs. By allocating nearly 20 percent of our county’s available funds to a stadium, we deny additional resources to fight the opioid crisis, bolster our criminal justice system, enhance the presence of the arts, provide for critical infrastructure, and strengthen our communities and local governments. It is my hope that the Ohio Senate takes necessary action to remove the funding for the FC Cincinnati stadium and return this bill for an affirmative concurrence vote.”
