Representative Jon Cross Announces House Budget Strengthens Northwest Ohio and the 83rd House District

House Budget has a positive impact for Northwest Ohio

COLUMBUS—State Representative Jon Cross (R- Kenton) today announced that the new budget plan from the Ohio House greatly benefits Northwest Ohio and the 83rd House District. House Bill 166, the state operating budget bill includes income tax breaks as well as additional funding for education, agriculture, workforce investments, economic development and local governments. 

“I’m honored to serve and champion the people and communities of the 83rd District to get the best outcomes in the House version of the state operating budget,” said Cross. “As a member of the House Finance Committee, I was able to work with my colleagues to develop a balanced budget with tax breaks for hard-working Ohioans and ensure our communities are safer, stronger and remain open for business.” 

Highlights include: 

  • For those earning between $22,500 and $88,800, their state income tax rate will be cut 6.6 percent. 
  • Provides $5 million in each of the next two years to be distributed to community colleges, state community colleges, technical colleges and Ohio Technical Centers for non-credit job-related workforce training programs. 
  • $25 million for loans and loan guarantees for the development and improvement of industrial parks in rural areas of Ohio. 
  • $20,000,000 to Ohio Maritime Assistance in order to promote new growth and industry in the Lake Erie Watershed region. 
  • Increase in the County Reimbursement for Indigent Defense in FY 2021 by $35 million. 

The two-year state budget passed the Ohio House today with 85 affirmative votes and 9 negative votes.
