COLUMBUS – State Rep. John Patterson (D-Jefferson) announced today that he is attending this week’s Council of State Governments’ 68th Annual Midwestern Legislative Conference in St. Paul, Minnesota. According to CSG’s website, the annual meeting provides state and provincial lawmakers from the Midwest with a unique opportunity to meet and learn from their peers while exploring issues of importance to the Midwestern region with nationally renowned experts.

“As a freshman legislator, I see this as a unique opportunity to work with my fellow elected officials at this conference to share ideas about how we can craft policies that improve the lives of our constituents,” said State Rep. Patterson. “I hope to compare and contrast our state’s challenges and solutions with those of our neighboring states. I believe we can all learn from each other, and it’s with that state of mind that I enter this conference.”

Rep. Patterson will be participating in the five standing policy committees that meet throughout the conference. The five policy areas that the committees will cover were selected because of their specific importance to the Midwest region. The policy areas are: Agriculture & Natural Resources, Economic Development, Education, Health & Human Services and Midwest-Canada Relations.

No taxpayer dollars are used to fund transportation, lodging or access to the conference.
