Rep. John Patterson Issues PSA On Lyme Disease Awareness
Lawmaker interviews medical professionals, local constituent in two-part series
 
 

As families prepare for summer and spending more time outdoors, state Rep. John Patterson (D-Jefferson) recently released a two-part Public Service Announcement* on Lyme disease and its potentially harmful effects if left undiagnosed and untreated. The videos feature interviews with Dr. Glen Needham, Professor Emeritus of Entomology at The Ohio State University, Dr. Charles Curie, veterinarian and owner of Geneva Veterinary Clinic, Tricia Gainey, a former student of Rep. Patterson and Dr. Phillip DeMio, a physician who specializes in Autism Spectrum Disorders and Lyme and associated diseases.

Patterson believes that successfully addressing Lyme disease will require a multifaceted approach. The Ashtabula-area lawmaker has worked to increase awareness and challenges of the disease since taking public office through new legislation, Public Service Announcements, community meetings and town halls.

State Rep. John Patterson (D-Jefferson) today applauded the passage of Senate Bill (SB) 299, the companion bill to Patterson’s House Bill 643, the Ohio Clean lake 2020 Plan. Joint-sponsored with state Rep. Steve Arndt (R-Port Clinton), the bipartisan legislation invests $36 million in efforts to tackle the issue of harmful algal blooms and create innovative programs to clean up Lake Erie.
