State Reps. John M. Rogers (D-Mentor-On-The-Lake) and Jamie Callender (R-Concord) today issued a statement announcing two Lake County recipients of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) NatureWorks grant.

“Both of these grants will help area residents more easily access the Chagrin River in these two parks,” Rep. Rogers said. “Not only does the awarding of these funds speak to the state’s commitment to Lake County’s natural resources, but the grants will help ensure safer access and a greater ability for our residents to enjoy two beautiful sites on the river.”

The Old River Farm Picnic Area in Willoughby Hills will receive $38,313 for accessibility upgrades. In Eastlake, Chagrin River Public Access areas will receive $19,202 for access improvements and green storm-water infrastructure. Cleveland Metroparks and the City of Eastlake applied for funding of these two projects.

“In Lake County, our scenic waterways are one of our greatest assets,” Rep. Callender said. “These grants will allow more people to have access to that asset.”

Every year the NatureWorks grants provide assistance to local government subdivisions to acquire, develop and rehabilitate recreation areas. Earlier this month, ODNR submitted their recommended list to fund over 80 projects throughout Ohio. The funds for these projects were approved today at the bi-weekly State Controlling Board meeting.
